Display Stands

Not only do I love to scrimshaw and engrave I also love to carve. This comes in very handy for making the displays for my work:) The materials I use can be found in a lot of your high end knives. To name just a few of the materials I've worked with; ivory, horn, wood, antler, bone, mammoth tooth, brass, copper, silver, and the list will go on. I love the challenge of working with and trying new things.

The Wood
All the wood I use is stabilized using a very involved very expensive method. The wood is completely impregnated with a stabilizing agent using vacuum and pressure. The larger voids naturally present in many woods are still present but the wood cells themselves are hardened and "filled" with the stabilizing agent. This process makes the wood nearly impervious to water or temperature changes also this wood has no finish to wear off or scratch or fade but will still take a high polish.
